    rod bearing look ok?

I pulled a junkyard engine and took it apart to check it out.
Do these bearings look ok to you guys or trashed?

You have a point but I'm not an engine builder.
I know how to bolt stuff together though :)

all you need are new bolts, bearing shells to match your crank (generally red on early blocks and yellow on late), and a $1 thing of plastigage from an autoparts store.

use the old bolts to confirm bearing clearance with plastigage, if good (should be) then bolt up and you're done..

The right way to replace the bearings is to measure the journals and pick the color of bearing that will result in the correct clearance. Plastigage (use the old bolts) is a good sanity check, but not really a substitute for measuring. Most of the time one color of bearing will work for all of the journals, but sometimes you need to use bearing from more than one color.
The car makes it possible, but the driver makes it happen.

if it's not a race engine, I don't think it really makes much difference. 99.9% of the time, a standard bearing set will work.

              ok cool.
              Thanks for the advice.

What number does it need to read on the plasticgauge to be standard?
I bought acouple sticks of the red and green.

m20 m50 it should read the same or is it motor spacific on the clearences?
              Just wondering.

plastigage current bearings. If in clearences bolt back together.
