Maybe a super noob or legitamte question here. I was talking to Ray Korman about BMW Group N bushings, rubber but with a duromoter near delrin. When talking about solid bushings, he mentioned knowing M20 guys who have cracked transmission housings, is there a concern for doing this to an M20 block? Does it stress the metal more? For reference, I'm looking at purchasing Condor Speed Shop, UHMV, look great but am worried. Thanks.

Cracking Block with Mounts

Alex,
Ray has seen a lot of things over his years. I don't doubt he's seen cracked transmission housings.
That being said the tranny housing is cast aluminum and not nearly as strong as a cast iron block (or the mounting arms).
I wouldn't sweat it if you can deal with the vibration that comes from Delrin/UMHW/Aluminum mounts (especially those with a bolt through design).

Thanks SkiFree, just convinced me to go through and get them. I'm young, my spine can take it.Originally Posted by Exodus

It's for a vert, that I've stiffened with springs, crossbrace, front strut brace, and soon sways, but still feels like a floppy whale.Originally Posted by Exodus

You know being a vert with a standard of front 21mm, going to the spece30 bar seems alittle pointless, and I've been watching ireland for the 25/22mm full kit, but they have been out of stock for ages. Does anyone such as ST or UUC have a kit most guys prefer?Originally Posted by Exodus

I agree. Add a strut brace and x brace and don't go too stiff with the rest of the suspension and that would be about as good as you can get. Moving the battery to the trunk may also add a bit of shake/vibration due to reoval of the damper back their. Look at what Alpina did with their verts. If you want rock solid don't roll a vert.Never argue with stupid people, they will drag you down to their level and beat you with experience. -Mark Twain

[QUOTE=whodwho;3815213If you want a solid ride, get a non vert ;)[/QUOTE]
I'm a broke high schooler, want to give one up?:D
But Alpina convertibles were mentioned, did they have any chassis stiffening braces that were not present on normal iC's? Would tieing the rear shocks together help?Originally Posted by Exodus

Thoughts? Even if it had to be modified or custom made. http://www.vacmotorsports.com/catalo...rame-brace.htmOriginally Posted by Exodus

My cabrio definitely does not feel floppy. It's not solid like the hard tops, but it's certainly not floppy.
Have you replaced control arms and tie rods and CABs? How are the struts? Shocks?Sometimes people get all caught up in adding "performance parts" and forget about regular maintenance parts.Originally posted by Andy.BWhenever I am about to make a particularly questionable decision regarding a worryingly cheap diy solution, I just ask myself, "What would Ether-D do?"

Supper stiff mounts like UHMW and derelin and aluminum can crack the trans mounting flanges, I've seen condor speed shops trans mounts do that because of all the vibration they transfer. But the motor itself will be fine as its steel. As far as sways go you could always keep your stock bar and add M3 end links to make it stifferShawn @ Bimmerbuddies
