    ETA m20 water leak plague.

im being plagued by my m20.

rebuilt the head new water pump and other things after snapping a head stud.

upon first fire i had a water leak, so i resealed the water pump with RTV silicone, then i had a leak north of the waterpump, so yesterday i resealed the thermostat housing with RTV silicone, between the housing and the head.

now today i button her back up and add water and what do i get but another water leak, its weird its coming from around the thermostat mating surface area but also from underneath the top part of the rubber timing cover....

im wondering if maybe my head is just busted and leaking.... everything looked a-okay when i took it apart, had it decked, and reassembled it.

this damn car just doesnt want to operate properly :hitler: can anyone help me out? i have no idea what else it could be, and all the hoses are tight..... no leaks from there.

Scrape all that rtv off and clean the mating surfaces appropriately, then seal with OEM gasket/oring. BMW didn't use sealant on them originally...

Are the surfaces clean and smooth? Sometimes you gotta sand them. Use a straightedge to check and make sure the surfaces aren't warped.

Honestly I've never had to use rtv on a water pump... Chrysler, GM, Ford, and on my M20. No leaks.
