    m20 problems.. help

hey r3v, heres the story of my m20 problems... hopefully you guys can help:

ok so after a small engine fire and blown head gasket.. i replaced my old m20 with a 104k m20 (with matching miles cluster) and had it refreshed. by refreshed i mean the head was shaved by a machine shop to insure that it was within spec, all new gaskets, seals, hoses, wire harness, o2 sensor, thermostat, water pump, timing belt, etc etc etc... pretty much everything.

the car was back on the road may 2013 and was running well. topped it off with oil as needed and got an oil change july 2013 @ 105k miles. up until recently the car was fine besides needing a new exhaust system and a valve adjustment.. both of which i was planning on doing very soon.

just recently it started to blow smoke under acceleration.. and now it constantly hesitates and feels weak under acceleration. overall sounds and runs like shit.

it also was leaking gas last week... but that was easily fixed by readjusting one of the hoses that run to the fuel rail and tightening the hose clamp. im just under 107k so its only been 3k miles since the refreshed motor. what do you guys think..?

What color smoke? Black is too much fuel, blue is burning oil, and white is coolant. All three suck.

It's blue. What could be the cause of burning oil... Esspecailly after all the recent maintenance?

Bad rings or blown head gasket. Those are only way oil can get into the combustion chamber.

Check your coolant reservoir for oil floating in there. Check the oil dipstick for a milky substance.

You claim loss of power and it seems like it happend pretty fast so I'm gonna go with blown head gasket.

Get a compression check done - sounds like a blown HG.

You mentioned the head was skimmed, did they do a valve job? They should have removed the valves to do the work anyways, if they stuck the valves back through the old oil seals then that would be your issue. What brand of HG did you use, how much was skimmed off the head. Need a little more info before we jump to a cause.

You can also check the outside of the block for fresh oil. Often times the gasket will leak/blow between cylinders 3 and 4 on the exhaust side of the block. If you see fresh oil just below the exhaust manifold but not above it, then it's coming from the gasket.

did you use victor reinz for your get and bolts? did you hone the block before putting in the new rings?

does the car sound like a WRX sti?

if any of the above, you need to do another HG.
