Never ending issues, Cranks but wont start

So.. as stated this car has me on the tips of my toes. besides the issues ive found out already, now there is a new one..

    it is an 87 325es

car cranks but does not start. [i tried getting it to start over a course of 4 hours, until i was delusional from lack of sleep two days in a row and just said screw it.. tow truck it is ]

anyway, i figured since the car HATES the cold as it is.. it may of been a factor in why it didnt start.. but i tried it today and still nothing.

the problem arised as an issue with first and second literally falling flat on its face, picture putting the car in third instead of first and trying to move from a dead stop.. that feeling is how the car felt. yet the problem was not consistent. it would do it once or twice from a light or when i really wish it didnt do it .LOL

anyway, ive been directed toward :
    -cps
    -fpr
    -ignition coil
    - fuel pump
    -fuel pump relays
    -tps

i tried replacing the fuel pump fuse, and listened to see if i could hear the fuel pump whine, but the pump makes NO noise. I was hoping it just ran out of gas (since my fuel gauge doesnt work), and it eats gas like a v8 twin turbo car. [sad i know]

    any other ideas?
bare with me as im new to e30's.. ive looked this up all over the internet, and asked a few people but no one can give me a solid a b or c answer.

also-- is there a cold start valve? what could the causes of my issue[s]?

    any information would be helpful.

    Thanks!

The first things to do would be to check for spark and measure rail fuel pressure when cranking the engine.
The car makes it possible, but the driver makes it happen.

Pull the intake boot and spray some throttle body cleaner in there. Crank the engine and then when it fires up you now know you need to check the fuel pumps(plural) 1)in tank and 2)drivers side near the fuel filter. If you're going through that much gas you probably have cracks in your fuel hoses.

The old eta's (like yours) have a cold start injector. It could contribute to your problem, but is not likely the cause of the no-start. Could be part of the poor mileage issue.

Checking spark and fuel as Jim states is the best first step. The fuel pump will only run while you're cranking or running the motor. You can jump the relay or put 12 volts directly to the pump to make sure it works.

You say "it hates cold". This leads me to believe it might be an issue with your temp sensors. There are four of them, but only three of them affect how the car runs. For this topic, do a search on this site for "eta temp sensor".

Lastly, there are a lot of vacuum lines and seals that can crack or fail and cause vacuum leaks. Vacuum leaks cause all sorts of problems including running rich, running poorly, hard start, no start, and rough/incorrect idle. Visually and physically inspect all vacuum lines.

OR... you're in NJ, lot's of e30 folks out there. Buy someone a case of beer or whatever to help you diagnose it.

Ok so i am getging fuel. Dont think im getti.g spark. Also, the car had a.mind of its own today and decided that whatever didn't work on tbe interior. ., now does. Well for the most part. And when u open the door the pass rear.blinker goes off andso does the driver side marker.

Tried strtong it abd it started and stalled instantly.

          Any other ideas?

Sounds like you have an electrical issue, probably a ground wire problem. I'm not much help on wiring. I do know that I had a problem with my car stalling whenever the brake lights or turn signal lights came on. That ended up being a bad ground, the one that attaches to the rear bulkhead behind the seat back of the rear seat (driver side). I don't think this is your issue specifically, but some sort of grounding problem sounds likely.

One other note, just because you have fuel, doesn't mean you have propper fuel pressure.

You may have multiple issues occuring, which is never any fun. I'm sure there is someone local that can give you hand. I would pick up (or download) a Bently manual and start testing sensors and wiring according to the specs in the manual. Start with the list in your first post.

stupid question but is there any other way to test for spark besides a voltmeter or using a screwdriver to see if it sparks?
