    Why wont it adjust?

So valve adjustment, im testing stuff out on my broken head. It all makes perfect sense expect for when I align the cam facing down, thats when things fall apart.

So the cam is in the correct position (facing directly down) to adjust that particular valve. Yet when I rotate the eccentric there remains too much gap between it and the retainer to even make contact at full extension.

I know something must be wrong either with my method or the broken head, I cant seem to imagine why the gaps remains so large. Its almost as if the cam should be facing directly upwards in order to get the proper .010 clearance.

A cracked rocker or valve that is stuck partially open come to mind as causes.
The car makes it possible, but the driver makes it happen.

You're probably right I just can't imagine why it would increase the gap so much without the valves really being visibly bent.

I agree with Jim but also note that rocker eccentrics wear as well. They could have been mal adjusted for far too long.

        Just a thought.
