I recently had my alternator belt snap in my 88 325is. it is my daily. i bought a new belt, replaced it, and was going to drive it without power steering or AC back to my place to get it out of my friends garage. however when i went to leave the car got about 400 feet chugged and shut off...i opened up the hood and started it again and my belt was burning.
i know i ran the belt correctly. its tensioned with about a 1/4 inch of play.
im curious if it could be my water pump though, like its stuck or something. i know my alternator is spinning and obviously my engine is but something is definitely wrong.
i plan on draining and removing the radiator this weekend to get a better look but i want some ideas of things to look at.
