    HELP! I need answers

I recently had my alternator belt snap in my 88 325is. it is my daily. i bought a new belt, replaced it, and was going to drive it without power steering or AC back to my place to get it out of my friends garage. however when i went to leave the car got about 400 feet chugged and shut off...i opened up the hood and started it again and my belt was burning.

i know i ran the belt correctly. its tensioned with about a 1/4 inch of play.

im curious if it could be my water pump though, like its stuck or something. i know my alternator is spinning and obviously my engine is but something is definitely wrong.

i plan on draining and removing the radiator this weekend to get a better look but i want some ideas of things to look at.

Check to see that your water pump has not locked up. Recently, I had a water pump impeller break off entirely, though it was not locking up. There are a lot of junk water pumps out there.

ok, i think its been an issue for a while because my other belts are in pretty good condition and have only about 15 thousand miles on them but my alt belt its probably getting chewed by the pump.

does anybody have suggestions on other things to look for? i figure if i am doing my pump i should do my timing belt, but what are some little things to change out while im already in there just as good maintenance?
