Flywheel position sensors, need some help!

I have a 87 325e i just put a new engine into. I have the 2 sensors coming off the flywheel that plug into the wiring harness on the drivers side.

Both plugs are exactly the same and im wondering how do I tell which one plugs to which female harness? Does it even matter?
Haven't you ever seen Russian Nesting Dolls? They work like that.

    Yes it matters.
The car makes it possible, but the driver makes it happen.

One of the sensors--TDC, I think--and it's corresponding connector on the engine harness, has a small wire tie near the connector. If those are missing, just plug in the sensors and see if the engine starts and runs OK. If not, reverse the connections.

I have 2 female harnesses: black and white colored. There's an upper and lower flywheel harness.

Which one goes to which harness?
