IX oil filter gasket keeps blowing out!

Twice now I've had the oil filter gasket blow out and cause oil to spray out all over my engine bay. Both times was while driving. Both times were with cheap fram oil filters. Do you think it's just due to cheap filters or could it be an over pressure problem? Both times was also after a cold start without waiting too long before putting load on the motor.

    sticking relief valve?

one filter maybe but two makes me think something isnt right, especially on cold start when pressure relief valve is most needed to operate

i think i would be putting a mechanical oil pressure gauge on it to see if the pressure relief valve is sticking.....

I've had 2 things cause this on M10's-

first, the sticking relief valve. It's separate on the M20, so it would be easy enough to
replace. A gauge will find that in a heartbeat. It would always happen cold, when I
goosed it or broke the rear end loose and let the engine spin.

second, a non- seated oil filter seal. If the seal isn't pushed down into the groove on the
filter, it'll extrude out under pressure. You'd think that tightening the filter down when
installing it would do it- but it doesn't. You can actually push it in with your thumb if
      you push hard.

now, sometimes I just mess with people. It's more entertaining that way. george graves

Actually the ix relief valve is built into the oil pump but I'll check oil pressure.
