91 325i convertible e30, starting issue after timing belt replacement

91 325i e30 convertible automatic, 175xxx miles- I just replaced the timing belt because it broke cracking the head ( head replaced as well). When working on tensioning the belt, the timing marks lined up almost perfect except for the top cam mark I couldn't get spot on. It's off by what looks like half a tooth. Hand cranked it to make sure no valves or pistons were touching, it sounded fine. Adjusted the valves, Put it all back together and started her up.

It turns on fine, then after a couple seconds sounds like it's choking, bogs down then dies unless reving it to keep it going when in neutral or park, all interior and exterior lights glimmer then die as well. It doesn't die every time. When it's warmed up it seems to idle out okay and drive fine. The smell of gas is pretty strong. I checked the new spark plugs and the tips are yellow which mean misfiring. Also there is a loud sewing machine like ticking noise that's constant and gets faster and louder when speeding up. I know it's common for older bmw's but it wasn't this loud before the disaster of the timing belt breaking. I've adjusted the valves three times to .010 in and doesn't quite it down.

Sounds like they shaved your new head too much and now your timing is off. Might have to pull it and install a thicker head gasket to compensate.
