    Question on intake into airbox

So I installed ellipsoids in my car about 2 weeks ago and after doing so my headlight covers don't go back on due to the HID pigtails which brought my attention to the intake boot that leads into the airbox. I'm new to e30's so I'm learning as I go and it doesn't seem like the Ellipsoid housings allow much airflow through them to get to the airbox intake. I'm just wondering if I'm right about that or if the engine sees the same amount of air. I hope this makes some sense. I'd love to know if there's a way to fix this. I'm tempted to remove my driver side high beam and buy an extending hose to reach the airbox intake to the grille so that the engine can breathe a whole lot better. I attached a couple pics to get an idea of what I'm seeing. Don't mind the duct tape...the intake boot is old so it didn't fit on well to begin with and will be replaced once I know what I'm going to do. Thanks!

It seems like the only obstruction would be the black thing sticking out of you low beam light... I assume thats HID some or other. Just trim the black housing where they intersect and re-install.

As far as the airbox being restricted, in short yes, but it was designed that way, and works.

And do keep that part- it really does help keep intake temps down.
I didn't really believe it, but a friend shamed me into sticking a temp
sensor up there, and that air does get quite warm behind the headlight.
