    Camshaft ID

Hey all. Just bought a used 885 head. I could use some help identifing the cam. Paint mark is 'K', which I believe is a std 325i cam. Stamped in the end is the letter K and the #74. I was told the cam is either a 274 or 284 regrind. I currently lack the needed tools to measure the lift & duration. Anyone recognize these markings?

    Thanks!

K is a 325i cam most likely. K is for katalysor or catalytic converter. stock cam is in the low 260's.

You should be able to measure the base circle with a measuring caliper (even a harbor freight special), if it measures less than 1.1" then your looking at a reground cam. write the number down and then measure the height of the lobe, with those two numbers in hand shoot me a PM and I'll figure out what you're close to (can't tell duration without a full cam tool, but I'll get you in the ball park).

I just set up a dial indicator on the cam. On the intake lobe, I measure .271" of lift, which equates to ~ 6.9mm. Slightly more than a stock K cam. Without pulling rocker arms again, I can't quite get in to get a base circle measurement.

With luck, I'll have it running tonight....
