M20B25 engine bad startup and water(?) out of exhaust

Hey guys I have a M20b25 that was fully rebuilt 120k miles ago. It ran good until the previous owner got rear ended and sold it to me. Prior to me starting it today, he started it about 2 weeks ago.

The car cranked and started right up, but hesitated to stay on. It would jump from 300 to 600rpm and sounded like it was not smooth. The engine was shaking in the engine bay. I thought the motor was bad because the previous owner started it with only around 2 or 2.5 quarts of oil since it leaked oil after the impact of the accident (idk how).

Well anyways after a little while the enigne actually calmed down and idled smooth and revved smooth. It was normal like any other engine. This took about a minute or so. So after a few minutes of idle and revs to redline (only 2 times) after it warmed up, I turned it off. I went to the back of the exhaust and saw black water. Yes I believe it is water as I smelled it and it did not smell like gasoline, at all. It was actually cool (semi-cold) water that was black. It was not oil or coolant. Just water with like black exhaust build up around it. Looks to be about 3-4 ounces of water actually.

Does anyone know whats wrong with the car? The engine was shaking when I first started it up. It died after a few seconds so I started it again. After a little bit it stopped shaking and idled smoothly.

I am wondering if anyone has input. Thanks

i have no idea how much an ounce is but a little water when cold and warming up is by product of the combustion + catalytic converter and a cold exhaust (water condenses into liquid on a cold surface). it will be black as it is mixed with carbon deposits etc. if there is water when everything is fully warm it might be something else

Ok well it isnt too much water. I am just wondering why the engine was shaking upon startup and felt like it wasnt really igniting any gas. It was only 2 weeks after the last startup.

either mixtures were out or ignition is not right.

coolant temp sensor is used for correct mixtures as engine temp changes it might be faulty along with other thigns

My guess is that the hard starting and cold idle problems are intake leaks. The water from the exhaust on a cold start is normal.
The car makes it possible, but the driver makes it happen.
