I just replaced my crank pulse sensor because the cord was cracked at the sensor head. The replacement part I ordered was 12-14-1-720-852. When I replaced the old sensor with the new one, the car would not start. I put the old sensor back on and the car cranked right up. The new sensor head is all plastic vs. the old one that has a metal sensor head. My question is, has anyone used this new style and did it work properly? I know I may have received a faulty sensor because checking the resistance values between the two sensors showed a huge difference in readings. The photos show my old sensor (top) and the new one I received.

What part number do you use and do the new ones from BMW have the plastic sensor head?

The supply house where I get my Genuine BMW brand parts listed 12-14-1-720-852 as "No longer available". I then went to P_ _ican and they had three brands for 12-14-1-720-852, Facet, Vemo and Genuine BMW. All three mfgs. showed the all plastic head type. I just purchased the mid. priced one from Vemo $68.
