I'm wondering how much a m20b25 cost for a used one without a tranny. Also how much is it to rebuild yourself?

Very open ended question. You could find one for $200 on craigslist, or spend $10k on a stroker from Metric Mechanic

Lol my bad for not clarifying just like a regular m20b25 with say 120-150k maybe less.

Used $200-$500 depending on how good it is, does it come with harness, alt,ps,ac, intake...etc

To rebuild one all stock, assuming all parts are good on it, you are looking at $1500 for parts and labor. Consider the fact that quality gaskets, bearings, timing belt parts will run you near $500 plus labor.

This is why 24v is so popular on E30, cost about the same to do the 24v swap than is to rebuilt old M20

Well I won't need labor cause for my collage mechanic class I get to rebuild a engine of my choice all I have to do is buy parts.

i know, right. the last one i bought from Vivek was $700 for trans, DS, dif, AC. so that breaks down to a bout $350. had 97k on it. come to find out it was blown. and i had to do a rebuild on it.

OP i see engines sell in huge ranges. hope for the best but chances are you will need to have it rebuilt.
plan to pay 200-450 for an engine, 400 in machining of the block and head, $900 in parts such as HG, rings, bearings, seals. and about 2 weekends to build it.

throw away that intermediate shaft pulley. get a cast one! those pressed one fail all the time

Cast one ordered. Thanks for the heads up on pulley failures. I never heard of one failing, but its cheap insurance.
