    Damaged bmw m20 block?

Sorry If I'm in the wrong thread, I tried to pick the closest one. Anyways, so I am cleaning my m20 block while I am waiting for my parts to arrive, and I notice few chunks of the block are missing. I'm just wondering if anyone has had this happen to a block, and any advice as to if it is still usable?

if it's going to be a stock built motor it'll probably be fine. If it was going to be a 3.1 liter stroker with a bunch of time/energy/money invested into it, I'd find another block.

I'm stroking it to 2.8 then turboing it? Should I still find a new block?

in all seriousness it probably isn't an issue. but i'm curious what would have caused that damage without messing anything else up

personally I would, yes. unless an M20 block is unusually expensive up there it doesn't make sense to me to invest a lot into a damaged one.

I just wasn't sure, but yeah I bought an e30 from a guy, he blew up the head some how, so I decided to rebuild the whole thing, then I notice this. Varsol wouldn't cause that would it?

it almost looks like it could be a bad cast from factory. maybe BMW let it slide. but ya if you are turbo'ing. dump the block. most people are giving them away anyways. heck if you were closer i'd give you one of my 5 extras laying around.

Damn ! I wish! Does 200$ sounds fair for an oringed block? I found a guy in the area that has one.

$200 if delivered. but there are 1000s of extra m20 blocks everywhere. and you can get an eta block or an I block, they are the same. usually i wouldnt expect to pay more than $100 for it.

I might go to my local wreckers and just pull on out of a car. Might take more time but I'll save
                            Some cash.
