    Oil pressure switch wiring

I am changing my timing belt, water pump etc... on my 1989 325i vert and the wire going to my oil pressure switch is crossing in front of the timing belt cover.

    1. Is this the correct routing

    2. The wire's covering is cracked. can I just cover with heat shrink covering or do I need to cut and splice with new wire?

89 325i sedan here, yes the single ground wire for the oil pressure switch is supposed to be routed in front of the timing cover. There is a small plastic channel (couple inches long) that holds the wire and two plastic clips that hold the channel to the timing cover. Heat shrink would definitely be a good idea, but a more protective covering would be best, preferably a material that is heat and oil resistant.
