Wonder if anyone tried fitting a fan blade/clutch assembly from an E36/E46 onto a M20? And would there be any effects(positive or negative)?
M20 Fan blade/clutch alternative?

OEM works just fine for cooling (wouldn't want to cool too much, as maybe those other parts might do, if they even fit), just grab new parts!

I fitted a s52 fan clutch setup on my m20. Blades are too wide and did not clear the PWR fat radiator but it might clear with a stock e30 325i m20 early radiator.OBD1 M54/M52TU swap as a M50b25

Can I ask why you want to put a different clutch/fan? The stock E30 parts are fairly cheap to replace. I pay about $60 for an OEM BMW clutch and I believe the OEM fan is around $30.Comment

Truth be told, OEM E30 parts are scarce in my country. The stealers want the equivalent of 130 USD for a Behr/Sachs fan clutch, so I've seeking alternatives from the wreckers... and used E30 parts are hard to come by as well sigh...
I've resulted to drilling my old fan clutch and injecting silicon oil into it. Though i think i overdid it slightly, the fan roar even on a cold engine. Guess i should remove some oil and try again?Comment

Well you can run a fan from a euro market diesel M51 if your looking to get more clearance as they are slimmer but agreed the stock fan is fine for most stuff. but really almost any fan will fit on if you feel like trimming the blades down.( or don't, the car will get it for you if you don't lol)Truth be told, OEM E30 parts are scarce in my country. If you don't have many bmw parts about you could always convert to a electric fan sourced from whatever's available in your local parts yardsShawn @ Bimmerbuddies

Holy cow that's even rarer than the M20 over here! Guess i'll bring the entire assembly over to the wreckers and see what fits.Well you can run a fan from a euro market diesel M51 if your looking to get more clearance as they are slimmer but agreed the stock fan is fine for most stuff. but really almost any fan will fit on if you feel like trimming the blades down.( or don't, the car will get it for you if you don't lol)

Not possible to cool too much. The thermostat controls how cool the engine gets. The fan is only there for when the car isn't moving. Clutch fans are a parasitic drain when the car is moving. Replacing the clutch fan with an electric fan that comes on a few degrees above thermostat temperature is much better for performance and economy.Comment

we never got them here either but they are only 60-70$ for the blade from bmw and they fit on stock or a bunch of other bmw fan clutches so its still a pretty cheap option for getting good cooling in a tight space without expensive aftermarket slim electric setups.
if bmw stuff isnt really available i think an electric fan swap is probably your easiest choice though where are you from anyway?Shawn @ Bimmerbuddies

Plenty of the US parts companies would be willing to ship internationally. Contact somebody like Blunttech, Guten Parts, or BMA Parts/Comment

Sorry for the lack of updates, I'm from Malaysia by the way. Managed to find a humane dealer who had it for $65. Will stick with this for the time being before I contemplate an electric fan swap.we never got them here either but they are only 60-70$ for the blade from bmw and they fit on stock or a bunch of other bmw fan clutches so its still a pretty cheap option for getting good cooling in a tight space without expensive aftermarket slim electric setups.
