So I have a 1987 325i vert and I recently had done a head gasket on it, but now it'll crank and I'm not getting any spark, I checked for spark from the spark plug wires and no spark, then tested to coil-dist wire and it was at 2k ohms of resistance, the wire itself says It should have only 1k, would this cause no spark at all due to the higher resistance? I also put in a new coil after all of this and still no spark, battery is fully charged and it's a brand new ignition system(cap/rotor, plugs, and wires). I'm so lost as to where I should check next, I'm a broke college student and I really do not want to throw random parts at it. Also, before I replaced the head gasket it did have extended cranking times, 15+ seconds, but when it started it ran fine, I changed nothing with the ignition system before the head gasket. Id appreciate any suggestions as to what else I may check to fix the problem! Thanks

Check for spark at the coil wire. If no spark there, then either a bad coil or the coil isn't getting signal to spark. Since you replaced the coil, I'd test the CPS and make sure it is good.Comment

Anyone in the San Francisco/Daly city area willing to stop by my place to help me with this problem? Tested CTS, cyl id , icv, replaced coil(bosch), since last update and still can't find what the problem is with the no spark issue and I'm going insane about this. Have you tried re-installing the old spark plug wires, attaching a ground from the engine to the head(should already be grounded via headbolts) and checking the rubber on the harmonic balancer is good and hasn't shifted your reference mark? Maybe a cut/disconnected wire is preventing powering up and/or triggering your coil?Comment

I threw away my old wires, assuming these wires would be okay, and there was no ground strap from the head on the engine, I'll try and find a ground strap and see if that helps. The harmonic balancer was in good condition, and the dowel pin for it was on there right. And I test for power to the coil and then too the distributor, it looks like the power stops from the coil to dist wire.
