    Stroker questions

I've been considering doing a stroker on my ix along with a turbo and I'm thinking between a 2.8l or a 3.0l.

My question is regarding the 3.0l stroker. I know I can use either the m54 or the s50 crank. I'm thinking the m54 it's way more plentiful and I can get one for next to nothing from a yard in California.

What needs to be done to the crank and block so they can work together. And will "i" rods really work. And I would be getting forged pistons so that's a no brainer.

If this info is out there feel free to let me know. I looked around a bit didn't find much. Mostly a bunch of guys saying get a 24v.

    But let me know.

    - sleeve for crank for the oil seal (metric mechanic, IE, PPF sell these )

-different (longer )bolt for crank hub gear

-no i-rods use s52 rods (better clearance, lighter and stronger) and chamfer bottom of bore slightly if needed

-may need to machine aux shaft a mm or two

check crank web clearance to internal block (only slight grinding might be required)

more info here about potential issues

Wow thanks I didn't see any of that anywhere I looked. Maybe I wasn't looking hard enough. But thanks man that helps a lot.

its not difficult alot easier than swapping a 24V engine

My main goal if I decide to go 3.0 stroker is so the motor will have a amazing torque curve. I hear that the 3.0 is definitely a torque monster as far as m20 is concerned is that right?

Not to beat a dead horse but are you planning on fudging the smog because the turbo m20 is not allowed in California to my knowledge I did a 2.7 build on my seta with the same idea but didn't want to deal with running the turbo under the books.

                I don't live in California.

Don't know if m57 diesels were sold in US, but these cranks can be adapted as well (photos from some Hungarian BMW board):

im doing a 3.0 build myself right now, you need the m54b30 or s52 crank. the s50 will not work. if you get slimmer rods (sxx or aftermarket) and custom pistons you shouldnt have to shave the block much if any.

S50B30US cranks work as well its just a little smaller stroke
