Sorry if this has been asked a million times but my question is can you directly swap an 325i DME onto and 88 325 SETA? Thanks!

yes you can but I wouldn't advise it unless you're running a 325i cam."I'd probably take the E30 M3 in this case just because I love that little car, and how tanky that inline 6 is." - thecj
85 323i M TECH 1 S52 - ALPINEWEISS/SCHWARZE
88 M3 - LACHSSILBER/SCHWARZE
89 M3 - ALPINEWEISS II/M TECH CLOTH-ALCANTARA
91 M TECHNIC CABRIO TURBO - MACAOBLAU/M TECH CLOTH-LEATHER

Well your fuel maps will be off and you will have a higher rev limit than your cam and valve springs may support which could result in damage, etc. Don't do it. Get the right 154 dme unless you're modified."I'd probably take the E30 M3 in this case just because I love that little car, and how tanky that inline 6 is." - thecj

The potential to over rev the motor for the seta valve springs is the only issue I encountered when I got a 88 325 seta running a Dinan chipped 325i 153 insead of the stock orange label 154. It was daily driven in that configuration for a long time but I was aware it was not safe to rev it like an I car and was careful but the previous owner thought it was an 325i and probably treated it like so.
I have a ton of stock 154 seta ecus if you need one pm me, it's definetly the safest bet but like I stated I have run a 153 without issue in the past.Shawn @ Bimmerbuddies

I may just do that because I have an 1988 325es and I believe it is a SETA but the previous owner has installed a 325i DME into the car.Comment

PO shouldn't have done. Go with your stock DME and a chip, works just great. My two cents./______\_o_/______\

I'd definitely recommend sticking with the stock 154 ECU.Comment

Swap in B25 valve springs and enjoy the 153 DME? Better yet, get a chip for either ECUs and have a little more fun with a raised rev limiter.
Why isn't this an option? It's not a particularly hard task, just time consuming.sigpicComment

Because to do it correctly you also need to swap the cam, intake manifold, throttle body, intake boot, injectors, air flow meter, and fuel pressure regulator. Now, this is what I would do BUT not everyone wants to rip apart an engine for "no reason" if it's running fine.Comment

Yes.
You could get away with a b25 cam, stiffer valve springs and a 153 ecu. But it wouldn't be running optimally.
Proper would be what MR. 325 stated.Comment
