Can someone give me a complete parts list I need for swapping my eta motor with a m20b25?
I found a m20b25 for a good price and need to budget everything out.
So I've gathered a parts list for the complete m20b25 swap I plan on doing on my 325e and I'm fairly new to motors and have never done a swap before and was aquiring some information on some of these parts.
"Parts you will definitely need: The engine, or course, with the wiring harness (this should include the main harness connector, Motronic connector, all sensors and injectors), Motronic unit, exhaust and intake manifolds, idle control valve, air flow meter, oxygen sensor, and the oil cooler with lines."
I found a m20b25 I want and have asked the guy on the information on what comes with the engine. I also have already found a tachometer and need a ECU I know. But about these other parts I'm very uneducated on.
I was looking for info on the motronic unit and was wondering where to get one or if it comes with the engine.
I assume the intake and exhaust manifold will come with the engine if not I know where to get those.
But I was wondering about the idle control valve, air flow meter, oxygen sensor and the oil cooler with lines? I was wondering where they are located, what they are and where I would aquire them new if possible and it they do not come with the engine.
Any help would be much appreciated. I've never dug deep enough into a car to do anything with the engine but recent events now require a swap and best believe I'm not paying a mechanic thousands of dollars when I can figure it out myself. So any guidance/advice/knowledge/information would be more than appreciated, I'd love to see my e30 tearin up the streets again.
Stricklyeta has a link for the swap, search that page for it. Also from what Ive seen you will not want to buy a new AFM because of the price. Instead get a refurbished one from BavResto? I think that's the guys company on here that does it.
Some other things that are important that will influence the swap is the year of your car and the year of the harness you get.
i did a 2.5 swap. if you get a 1987 325is the harness is plug and play into a 86eta. if the motor your buying doesn't come with an oil cooler you can just take the nipple off from the eta motor.
btw your going to want to get a new differential because the eta has longer gearing in the diff. look into a 3.73lsd or a 4.10lsd once the motor is in.
also the afm from a eta won't work on a i motor.
everything from the eta motor will be useless like the icv, fuel pressure regulator, spark plug wires.the crank position sensor wires on the trans bell housing is junk.
hope your new motor comes with a i flywheel, because the e has a dual mass flywheel(heavier)
also most etas some early model 325i's have a different style of cooling, up tp you if you want to change it to a late model set up. you'll need a new water pump because early and late are different and radiators are different
