    M20 + 528e bellhousing + Getrag 265/5 -- Clutch Options

    Hi,
as the title says, I am about to install a 265/5 into my E30, behind the M20 engine. I have got these parts so far:
    - 1983, 323i with M20 engine, but no gearbox.
    - Bellhousing from 528e with M20 engine
    - Flywheel from above car
    - Throw-out lever from above car
    - 265/5 Gearbox

And I still need the following:
    - Pilot bearing to go into back of crank-shaft. --> order from BMW
    - Full clutch kit. ???

Regarding the clutch kit, what options are there. I just went into the local automotive shop here in Australia this morning and they want $1400 for a clutch kit, but are not sure if would actually fit...

Any Advice what clutches fit and in which other models they were used, is much appreciated.

    Thanks
    Ingo

My experience with the stock Sachs clutch kits - pilot bearing, throw out bearing and alignment tool is included.

So you're running the 323i flywheel?

I'd recommend going with the Sachs clutch kit for the E30 323i or 325i.

This kit is $200-$250 in the US so even with shipping to Aus it's a hell of a lot cheaper.

I am running the flywheel that was originally fitted to the 528e.
(The 323i used to be an automatic, so no flywheel there)

Can someone confirm that the standard 325i clutch fits onto the 528e flywheel?
(I spoke to Sachs in Germany and they gave me a different part number)
        Pressure-plate: 999618
        Disc: 168232

Also does the standard 325i clutch plate fit onto the 265/5 spline?

        Thanks

I also have a 1983 323i and have been gathering intel on doing either a 245/5 or 265/5 installation.

Would someone be willing to comment on which transmission is preferable to put in the E30/M20?

The 245 was a factory option in the 323i, so has that advantage.

Is the 265 heavier or physically larger (tighter fit)?

          Is the 265 appreciably stronger?

Does either one run quieter or shift smoother?

The 265 to M20 bellhousing sounds like its difficult to find, but all this stuff is...

Any insight would be appreciated. All I find are little crumbs scattered around the web.

Hopefully I will be swapping in one of these soon....
