    Valve adjustment question.

So I'm going to be doing a valve adjustment for my car and I was wondering if I'll need a new valve cover gasket. I recently had the valve cover gasket and the head gasket replaced along with a valve adjustment (and new valve guides) but the valves have started to tick again. Am I going to need a new cover gasket even if the gasket's relatively new?

To add to this, the independent BMW shops/mechanics I have been around typically clean the mating surface REALLY good for oil and put a very thin film of RTV around it when reusing a VC gasket, with extra little dabs at the rocker shaft seals. This is to ensure there is no vacuum leaks more so than an oil leak, I believe. That's what I've done and I don't have any issues, you know, with that anyways. :)

Yes, you can reuse it. I replaced mine when I did my first valve check, just to be sure. I've done 4-5 now and it's still fine. If you torque it down properly in the right sequence, shouldn't be a problem. Just be careful removing and installing it, so that you don't bend it or anything. I've never used RTV on mine, seems to seal just fine.

Also check the rubber bungs at the end of the rocker shafts (there are 4). These need to be periodically replaced. I've done mine once since I got the car.
