    M20 stroker cam gear positioning

    Hi guy's

I'm having a brain fart, I just put a 284/272 cam in my 885 head and I need to know how to place the timing marks with my adjustable cam timing gear. Do I match the single line with the mark on the head or the center line that measures the advance & retard.

    Thanks for your help

overlay it with a stock gear orienting the pin/dowel and it should become apparent.

Quite often there is a one tick on the gear for the TDC and a seperate one to be used for adjustment purposes but this might depend on the design

        Hi Diggar

Ok so I put the OEM gear on the cam and lined it up with the mark on the head.

I took it off and preceded to put the adjustable cam on and noticed the tick was 360 degrees. Should I have to turn it to the tick on the head to get it set for top dead center?

I supplied pics so you could check out my situation.

        Thanks again for your help

          Hi Diggar

So now that the Adjustable cam gear only goes on one way where the cam tick should line up with the head tick what should I look for as far as valves being opened or closed?
As of now the number 6 intake and number 4 exhaust valves are open and everything else is closed. I'm trying to make sense to set the cam timing gear with the crankshaft which has been set to TDC. LMK if I'm doing the right thing?
          Thank you

Your adjustable sprocket is assembled wrong (in the pictures). Remove the 6 outside bolts, and assemble it using the factory sprocket as an example. Look where timing mark near the teeth is in correspondence with camshaft pin near the center hole.
