Blue Loctite on Oil Pan Bolts?

Recently I changed my oil pan gasket and found the car was losing more oil than before after it. I went back, checked all the bolts, and all of them are slightly loose now.

Can I just take the bolts out, add loctite, and put them back in, or do i need to use a new oil pan gasket? It's the OE BMW cork gasket

SHOULD I even add loctite to the bolts?

    Thanks.

There is no reason to locktite the bolts. Just make sure they're tight.

The cork will squish a little when it's first installed. That's probably the source of the loosening.

Is anything like gasket maker or some type of sealant recommended on top of the cork or is just the cork gasket fine?

Just did this to my car the other day. Installed a new oil pan last fall and found oil all over my skid plate recently. Removed the skid plate and all the oil pan bolts were .25-.5 turn loose from the engine virbration and intial gasket shrinkage. I retorqued them all without removing or locktiting them and I haven't seen the problem return.

I always try to find paper oil pan gaskets, hate the cork ones. Use a little RTV at the corner areas. In a week or so i check to make sure the bolts are tight.

I was suggested by iwantspeed to use Gasgacinch

              http://www.amazon.com/Edelbrock-9300...ords=gasacinch

I'm going to re-torque the bolts that I'm able to get to and hopefully the puddle goes away

i would use a flexible sealer/silicone on the interfaces once they are meticulously cleaned, lightly/snug install bolts until sealer has fully cured, then tighten it the rest of the way after curing.

since the bolt grip length is short and the joint is a flexible one it can relax a bit when heat cycled and the bolts may loosen somewhat so check it after use
