Only ones I see

1 Easy access to cam gear, only good if you have one you can make modifications.
2. Manual Spark Timing.

Can not think of any disadvantages.
The one I got has no points to mess around.

manual ignition timing isn't really a good thing. electronic ignition is so much better, rather than changing the entire curve up/down you can change individual load sites. there's a reason a mechanical ignition system hasn't been used in 30 years.

on a 325e? nothing really. you could do the same thing (better, actually) by getting a chip. The tuning options available when that was written (a long time ago) were pretty limited so using a mechanical distributor and a carb made some sense.

that article is really old BTW. It may have had some truth to it 10-15 years ago, but Pete McHenry passed away quite a while back. They haven't been on here in a long time but his son's were members here (Stu, Alex I think). :(
