    '84 eta no go

So my '84 eta stopped running suddenly. Was running perfectly last Thursday and then when I went out to start it Friday morning nothing. The starter engages and the engine turns over but no combustion. There is no spark evident and nothing getting to the coil as best I can tell. Checked the fuel lines and when the engine is turning over with the starter, fuel is being sent to the fuel rail. Any ideas? Ordered new plug wires cuz a friend cut into mine to check for a spark am hesitant to just throw money at her willy nilly. Also I have, for an ECM, a Bosch 0 261 200 021. Could that have died? Should I keep her down to upgrade to the Motronic 1.3 system or keep it oe? Any help would be awesome. Kinda need her fixed by Sunday.

No spark could be a bad crank reference sensor. They are easy to test for resistance values. Plugs might be hard to get to under the intake. You could check at terminals 25 and 26 on the ECU harness - there should be about 960 ohms resistance there. I think I might have one if you find that that is the problem. Does it crank over rapidly like there is no resistance at all - zero spark?

I've not checked the ECU yet, haven't had time, but she cranks over just as she should when starting. There is no hesitation or reluctance to turn over. I turned the engine over w/out a plug in, to test aforementioned plug, and the pistons were moving as advertised. I could feel the air through the plug hole. Donno if that helps any.

It has to be an ignition problem. Have you checked all your fuses? Are you receiving power to your plugs? You said your friend checked it?

I checked my fuses and they are all good. Going to check my dist and rotor in the am. Also going to start working my way through the troubleshooting guide. I'm working 12's so not much time to work on the old lady.

Update. Just checked the fuses with a meter and some are not getting power. Looking into that after sleep.

So how likely is it that my flywheel sensor pin fell off? I jacked the old lady and I can see the sensors but how do I check for the pin? There is absolutely no power going to the coil so I'm looking into the sensors, position. Also looking into going from motronic 1.0 to 1.3 just to save time with the crank position sensor.

If you have no power to the coil then that is likely the problem. I would check the crankshaft position sensor and engine speed sensor after you get power to the coil. Those 2 sensor are for ignition timing/spark, but you have to have power to the coil first for them to work. Power to the coil comes from the ignition switch to the obc relay, then from the obc relay to the c101, then from the c101 to the coil.

                    Other possibilities are:
                    1) ignition switch
                    2) obc relay
                    3) Main relay
                    4) coil
                    5) fusible link
                    6) crank and speed sensors
                    7) Pin on flywheel missing. Take the crankshaft position sensor out, get a flashlight and look inside the hole the crank sensor sits in. The crankshaft position sensor is the lower rear sensor of the 2. Have someone turn the engine over while you look for the pin. The pin looks like a square wheel weight on the side of the flywheel. If it is missing you will only see a 3mm rusty hole where the pin is suppose to go.
8 Ground wire from coil to ECU
                    9)ECU

Those are the things I can think of. I'm sure there are more that I'm forgetting but that's a good start. Also when testing for spark, test directly from the coil to eliminate a possible bad cap, rotor, and wires. Good luck.

Solved my issue. Swapped the crank position sensor for a shiny new one and she started first turn. Thanks for the help guys!
