Super high idel in park

I'm new to e30 life. Just picked up a 87 325 auto and in park and nuteral idel is super high and keeps raising then in park drops to normal. Also feels sluggish on the freeway. Any help is great.

Have a shop perform a smoke test for you.

Check for vacuum leaks and any cracks in hoses, especially the big intake boot going to your throttle body. There are a couple metal press-in fittings that go into the throttle body that can be loose that need to be sealed up. Make sure your throttle cable and cruise control cable aren't too tight or have broken fittings. Check the electrical connections at the coolant temperature sensor and check it's function with an ohmmeter and instructions from the Bentley manual.

It also accelerates to about 15 on it own in drive but Rpm is normal ? any ideas?

Yea definitely check the cables/ guides. One time mine was broken and had similar symptoms, but mine's a manual. This little clip was broken and made it rev by itself.
