318 to m20 swap, like now

So we cowden_12 and I are well into the m20 swap in the 84 318i, but there are a few things that I'm still not sure about, and was not expecting to see when I got to them.

1st, I should be able to find the diagrams again for the wiring of the c101, but if anyone has them on hand it would be perfect. (this is for l-jet to motronic 1.1)

2nd, the 318i power steering pump lines are too short for the m20, disconnect power steering until he can get the right lines?

3rd the shifter issues. since the getrag 240 uses the sheet metal shifter assembly, and now we have to switch to the aluminum arm for the 260 trans. Does the bushing for the back of the arm unbolt on all e30s? If not (like post 88 cars) is there anything else I can do to make the shifting arm work without it?

4th, what can we do about throttle cables? Doesnt look like the original 318 throttle cable will work. We dont need cruise since it doesnt work. Can we make it work, or should we just use an m20 cable?

I think that is everything for now. Thanks.

I'd say to disconnect the lines from the rack and plug them - that way teh system isn't open and won't allow for contamination.

In terms of the throttle cable, I'd say to just use the m20 one. if you need one, I might have one laying around that I'd be willing to send for the price of shipping if you want?

You could make that hose longer very easily and inexpensive. you use a digrinder and cut the metal off were the soft hose goes into the metal line. then go to the auto store and get teh length needed, couple hose clamps and it is as good as custom new.

At least until he gets teh correct hose. I never had any issuses with hose length, however. I used the 318i hoses on my m50 conversion...

Also, there should be a 13mm nut that holds the rear shifter bushing in place... just swap it for the one taht matches your shifter.

got the car running and driving today. Tach isnt working, but everything else related to the c101 is pretty much all nice and good I think. I didnt spend any time diagnosing the tach as we had to just get the car running and back on the trailer. shifter is a little off still. We made a temporary fix, but the lever wont get the trans into reverse for some reason. Every other gear works fine.

Other than that once we hooked up the engine ground strap (after figuring why it wouldnt start) it cranked right up and ran great. This should be a fun car once it gets done and we upgrade the diff. Its a stock m20b27 with motronic 1.1, 325i single mass flywheel and clutch, 325e exhaust, and small case 3.91 diff for now (from the 318). It actually pulls much better than my 327i but I'm still running the 2.93 rear, so I think ill be upgrading soon.
