I'm trying to determine if some tiny pinging noise is normal... The whole assembly rotates very smoothly, however. But I do here some ticking sounds coming from the bearings. Take a listen. Is this normal?

If you rotate the block right side up on your engine stand does the noise change?
You might use a stethoscope to really zero in on the source location. I didn't have any noise like that. I'm wondering if it's your oil pump?Comment

No. Same noise. Even with the oil pump off.Comment

Did you plastigage the bearings before you assembled things? What's attached to the ends of the crank? What is your crank end play? Did you have the pistons out?Comment

Maybe worn out wrist pin? Idk I would look really closely at where the noise could possibly be coming from.

That sounds like oil bubbles or oil "popping" to me. Not saying it is, but the sound reminds me on that.Comment
