    Ok wtf, starter wiring issue

Like the title says, I just got my 325i harness installed to go with my 2.7i. The car is an '87 eta and the harness is a late model 325i harness. The starter is the original eta starter with the spade connector.

The i harness has the 3 hookups including the unloader relay wire which I was simply going to wrap in heat shrink and tuck away.

Anyway got everything in and now the starter won't do anything, it was working fine on the eta engine in the car a month ago.

I started diagnosis by unplugging the spade connector that I spliced in place of the original ring connector. I then manually jumped the big positive lug to the spade which should in theory spin the starter over. Got nothing.

Next out of curiosity I checked for voltage at the spade and found that it gets 12v when the key is "on" as well as in the "start" position. Wtf? This can't be right. Any idea what's going on guys? This thing is ready to fire up otherwise!!!

    Thanks.

Check the ground cable from the engine to the chassis.

Ok I'll check the resistance when I get home. That still doesn't explain the 12v at The solenoid wire with the ignition on though. Wouldn't that want to drive the starter motor as soon as I turn the key to accessory mode?

I just talked to my buddy and he said there should be 2 engine ground straps, I only have the one on the oil pan. Any idea where the second one goes?

Alright so pin 18 on my c101 is getting 12v in the accessory mode. This makes zero sense, what could cause that? Also I cleaned up the oil pan ground but still getting nothing from the starter, what a convenient time for the starter to die.

          Starting to get annoying...

Alright moral of the story is never go full retard. Apparently there are 2 spades on the early eta starter, I was on the easily visible, not completely hidden one on top. Once I popped that connector on the bottom all was well.
