SSSquid vs. MarkD 93 octane chips for the M20B25

Hello all, trying to figure outw hich chip to buy and can't decide between the SSSquid stage 1 17# injectors 93 octane vs. the MarkD 17#/19# injectors 93 octane.

Does anyone have any experience with these chips and can help me with a recommendation?

    Thanks!
    Mike

i would get a 91 octane chip, IMO you dont want to or need to use the good stuff on a lowly 8.8:1 CR engine you just dont need the extra resistance to knock on a stock engine. i had a custom tune (alot more gains than off the shelf chip) on my m20 stock engine previously like 11 years ago and even though it was tuned on 98 it ran just the same on 95

One such racer on these forums said his m20 made more power on 95RON compared to 98RON (98 RON is equivalent to 93 pump fuel), it was dyno proven....your mileage may vary

ill dig out an article comparing stock to 91 to m93 Mark D chip that i found years ago it isnt mine. Its important to note this is only one piece of data. coincidentally the before and after i did of another 98RON chip (not MArkD) showed the exact same trend in the gains in mid-range but not at bottom end or top end there was zilch, maybe just a coincidence....

After this i did use a markD chip (didn't see the article) and didnt notice anything different over the previous aftermarket chip before finally a custom tune with piggyback. you cant beat a custom tune.

Tried both and stick with SSSquid because they have a tune for M30 AFM on top of 19lb injector. However, if you plan to do something big on your engine - port / bore / 272+ cam change, etc. - you should do MS yourself...

        Custom tune information, Please

Hello, I am very interested in knowing what a custom tune involves? I have a 1987 325ic that could probably be perked up using this approach.....
Thank you in advance for your time and knowledge... Jon

take it to someone who can modify the chip on a dyno to specifically suit your engine.

I haven't dealt with markd. I have dealt with sssquid and his costumer service is fantastic. He emailed me back after my initial email to him, in ten minutes, on a Sunday. Can't beat great customer service these days.

really appreciate all the feedback from everyone, I'm ultimately leaning towards a 91 octane chip over the 93

sssquid chip on my m42 e30 woke it up like crazy, low end torque is comparable to a m20 now. totally worth the cost. I recommend a new AFM and rebuilt injectors too for maximum gains
