    Starter won't engage flywheel😡

Alright guys I have yet another problem, as the title states it will not engage the flywheel. I have tried two different starters and engine harness' still nothing.

Starters are known good and harness is untouched. Everything is hooked up the way it should. I'm really stumped and don't know what else to try.

    I would appreciate any help!!!!

I see (on other posts) that you did a 5 speed swap. Are you sure the sheet metal-like shield and dowel pins are properly in place?

Yes starter spins fine. I have had them both tested and they checked out good. I also checked them manually with a battery and they worked as they should

Yes both dowel pins and the thin plate are in place. I really don't know what it could be. The engine turns over by hand smooth as butter.

                  It could be 2 things:

                  1. I have had a ring gear come off before. That was on an aftermarket AL flywheel though.
                  2. The pinion/bendix gear on the starter is not extending to engage the flywheel (it could be stuck, stripped, starter miswired or starter is not spinning fast enough)

all the wiring is correct. starter works for sure I can manually power it with a battery and can see the bendix move forward.

I know its a stupid question but are you certain you received an M20 flywheel with your swap purchase?

I used the flywheel that came with the engine I bought. The donor engine would start with no hesitation.

Are you sure that the battery is supplying enough juice to turn the engine over?

How is the engine block ground? A weak ground may let the starter spin but not enough power to turn the crank?????

Do the teeth on the starter engage in the flywheel at all? Any grinding or marks on the flywheel or starter that you could use as a clue?

Starter does not engage flywheel at all. I know for a fact they both work but for some reason once I hook it up the bendix won't move.

Would a bad ground/wrong connection cause this? I have a feeling the battery terminal at the front of the car isn't hooked up properly.
