    e30 m20 87325i vert wont start.

after doing research through r3v and other e30 sites, ive narrowed my diagnosis down to two components.

•the cps which i havent tested

    •and the fuel pump.

tonight im going to test the sensor by replacing it with working one from a friends e30..

if that doesnt work then the fuel pump
    but quick question.

a friend who is a mechanic (chevy specialist)
says the fuel pump should cut on and sound
    like the iac valve
so i did a quick check and here are the results...

    what do you think?

    iac

In E30s, the fuel pump turns on briefly when the key is in position two then off. The pump will not run without signal from CPS.

Not true for an E30. The pump only runs when the DME sees timing data from a rotating engine.

Later BMWs do prime the pump before cranking.
The car makes it possible, but the driver makes it happen.

Check to see if you're getting any spark.

@MrBurgundy after testing ... no there is no spark... what does this mean?

and is my fuel pump suppose to buzz similar to my fuel pump?

If you have no spark, it could be the CPS or the coil itself.

If you have no spark and the fuel pump isn't running, the likely suspects are (in order):
              a) Bad main relay
              b) Bad CPS
              c) Bad fusible link in the small cable from the battery positive
              d) Bad DME ground
              e) Bad DME
              f) Bad engine harness

There are other more rare possibilities, but start with the above first.

Start by checking your fuses, I replaced a fuel pump in my E30 when it was only the fuse. The old open top fuses sometime burn out at the solder point on the edges and not necessarily in the center wire like new fuses, that's what tricked me when I looked at them.

And like others said, fuel pump is only ON when engine is cranking.
