    M20b25 intermediate shaft

Machine shop is telling me that the intermediate shaft bearings doesn't need to be replaced. The block was decked and cleaned. Researched showed me if the block was thermally or chemically cleaned the bearing should be replaced. How true is this?

cleaning can ruin those bearings and they are a bitch to replace. I guess it depends on what they used but I don't think you should chemically clean the blocks.

He assured me that they don't chemically clean block anymore. And that's what he said he said that machining the bearings would be really difficult to match up to OEM specs

        Sounds like a smart shop.

I've had at least a dozen machine shops asking for new intermediate bearings after hot-tanking their clients block before realizing their mistake. Oops..

Gotta say they are a pretty reputable shop.. I hope everything works out. I have to assemble the block back together now to find out.

If the block wasn't hot tanked and the bearings aren't worn, there is no need to replace them.
The car makes it possible, but the driver makes it happen.
