So my question is pretty simple. I have an 87’ 325e that I bought recently and while completely inspecting the engine I noticed the yellow top coolant temp switch (p/n: 12631279722) is completely screwed up (which explains crappy idle from a cold start), the entire internals of the sensor is disintegrated. Plus I checked the resistance and it’s not even fluctuating at all. After looking to and from the ends of the earth for this oem yellow top coolant temp sensor I find out that this yellow top two pronged sensor which is the 45cel one isn’t made anymore and no one carries it. I DID find the purple top one (p/n: 12631279719) and after research the difference between the two is the Yellow top is rated for 45°Celsius and for the 325e with the Motronic 1.0 (which I have) and the purple top is rated for 0°celsius and is for the 325e with the LJetronic. As these are the sensors directly involved with cold start up and tell the ICV how many RPMs to be at on start up, can I use the Purple Top (0°Celsius) coolant temp switch without any issues?? Thanks

I've never heard of a CTS having a temp range. I bought one for our 87 eta and wound up using it on my 87 i.
