    coolant leak at block heater

    Hi,

After dooing a coolant flush (and timing belt+water pump replacement) on my new to me 1987 325ic my mechanic informed me that there is a coolant leak where the block heater fits.

Since this will only be a summer/weekend car I dont need a block heater. Where can I find a plug to fix this leak?

    Thank you for your help!

Welcome! I assume he's talking about the throttle body heater, which can be bipassed with a small double male hose barb connector. See if your mechanic could do this for you.

No, it's not the throttle body heater, it's the electric heating element in the cylinder block connected through a power cord that come's out through the car's grille. Quite common here in Canada, probably not in the US though.

One solution would be to replace it with a new block heater (which I dont need) but if we could remove the block heater and plug the block that would be perfect (and cheaper!). But I am not sure where to find the plug (or the block heater for that matter).

You just need a new freeze plug which I'm pretty sure a dealer will sell you for not that much. If you can get the specs for it then the range of suppliers increases. Use some Permatex 2 ( non hardening) around the edges

Thank you! I am hoping the plugs are still available from dealer!

Get the PN from realoem.com then search.
