    M20 oil canister filter?

I was at a local diy day and a gent had a 88 325is, so as I'm poking about it while he's changing his oil I noticed it had a cartridge filter, how odd.

He had to have the engine replaced due to timing belt collision so he said, cost 3G for all the work but he got a new engine from dealer. So that was good, but this is the first time he had been changing his own oil and he had the wrong filter. Has anyone else seen a cartridge style on a M20 mounted on an oem oil cooler location?

He got a fram to hold him over so he didn't have to put the used one back in.

they were available from BMW years ago, but are NLA now.

definitely ditch the fram for a mann or mahle oil filter though.. or at least a napa gold filter!

It was to get him down the road that is all. He said that he planned converting back to an OEM style.

Mahle and Mann are not carried at the local Pep boys. It was odd due to the fact that the cartridge empty via side so oil still spilled but there is less waste involved.
