Mystery stroker found at the junker?

Ok so here's the deal... while getting the 5spd parts for BDSax, we saw that the car that he was getting all the parts from was an '88 iS that was pretty modified..... ATE Powerdiscs, Lowering springs, etc etc.

When we pull the motor, someone walking by mentioned that it was probably a stroker motor. It had all of the "I" external parts (manifolds, valve cover... painted btw).

I look at the head and I see: 2.7 ETA. And I was like "wtf?"

I was under the impression the 2.7 head was garbage.

So I'm here wondering what the hell is done to that motor. How can I make sure? I'm thinking of picking that motor up because it was so clean inside.

    Thanks,
    - Erick

Maybe they replaced the M20B25 with a Supereta longblock?

Throw it in a car and see what it can do?

I suppose you could pull the head, I'm pretty sure i/eta pistons look different from the top.
You could get connecting rod measurements but that's pretty deep down there.

I'd imagine both would require you buying the motor first. Does it even run? Why is it being parted out?

The car is sitting at the junker. I have no idea why its there. The motor looks fine and it spins properly when we put the 22mm to the crank pulley.

I thought of that, but like I said, I'd have to take the motor apart to tell, but it looked ridiculously clean.

I've seen a lot of cars down here that end up in junkers because they are picked up by parking violations and their owners dont claim them.

The thing is tho, what can I look for showing that this is a stroker motor?

tear it down, you wouldn't be able to tell just by looking at the outside.

Take off on sparkplug, find 1. cyl BDC, put a suitable rod(oil dip stick will do) to plug hole, so it touches top of the piston, mark the rod with tape on the point where it passes some good reference point(top of the cynder head or something that you can repeat), turn crank 180 deg to TDC, hold the rod steady as it raises when piston goes up. Now repeat tape marking on that same reference point.

Measure between tape edges(same edges, bottom to bottom, or top to top)... you have measured the stroke of the engine :)
