    another spark plug thread

three different people in the past week have told me my car sounds like its missing... i have recently replaced my plugs, cap, rotor, put newer wires on. my car still runs like ass and is getting shitty mileage. so i also tried replacing the coil, throttle position sensor, and crank position sensors. same shit still. so today i pulled my month old plugs to see how things are going and this is what i found...

(i already tried asking my cat but she didnt know either)

i know what i am seeing isnt normal, i just dont know what it means. would i have bad injectors or something? i forgot to mention that this motor sat for a VERY long time before it got put in my car, and i dont know a whole lot about the history of it. its been on the road and running for around 4-5 months now. i just know that it doesnt burn oil which is pretty impressive, and that it runs bad and im only getting around 17 mpg. i plan on autocrossing this spring and would really like to get it figured out before then.

any input at all would help tons, im fucken lost and really hoping that it can be figured out without having to put another motor in it.

Those plugs look healthy to me. hmmmm. Maybe it's not an ignition problem. Maybe it is fuel delivery. Maybe you need new injectors.

If you're getting shitty mileage, it's bc you are running too rich and that would indicate your spark plugs to be all black and "wet" if you are running too rich. That obviously isn't the case.

Have you pulled out all 6 of your plugs? if so, see if there is any variation in the condition of them relative to eachother. That would probably tell you if you have a a faulty fuel injector. (remember to keep in mind which plug came from which cylinder, mark them if you need to)

    My bet:

Bad injector, it's not firing, which is causing the other injectors to fire that much more to make up for the broken one (or two, three, four. lol)....

Haha, yes, thank God you aren't using shitty platinum plugs.

I'd suggest cleaning your injectors with BG44K. It's the only stuff imo that REALLY gets the job done. It may turn out that you need a new injector or two.

Do an experiment. With the car idling, get the longest screw driver you own (preferably a flat blade) and put the tip on each injector, then put the handle in your ear. It makes a very effective stethoscope and will allow you to hear each injector firing. They should make a solid sounding "tick tick tick", if it's muffled or no noise is coming from one or more injectors, they may be toast.

I had two injectors that didn't fire at all in my 6 series when I bought it. One can of BG44K and 25 miles later they all sounded very healthy and the car ran much better! Well.. it still had bent valves, but it's all good.

save your money. Just get the NGK V-power if you want something other than the normal NGK. Bosch sucks at plugs!

Trash those plugs... NGK plugs FTW!

But that won't solve your problem. hehe

MAy not be applicable here but NGK BP6RES are highly recommended for both the high and low compression (i.e. 9.7:1 and 8.8:1 )M20b25 in the UK. It is a slightly colder plug thatn the Bosch WR8LC

You guys reccomend the stock plugs either the WR8LC or the NGK BP6RES...

I'm a big fan of a stock plug (no platinum 4's for me) but having not pulled my plugs yet (ever) I want something stock to put in and run for a few weeks so I have a good baseline when I pull them back out to look at. Unless there is some major difference when I pull them out I need a good stock (heat) plug to put in. Bosch or NGK?? Is it totally personal preference?

                      TIA,
                      TJW
