    spark plugs?

    im going to change my plugs within the next few days.... what should i use?

    i used bosch platnum 2's in my jetta vr6 and the car loved em, so i was thinking about running them in my e30.

      bosch w8lcr is OEM. i heard that you shouldn't be using platinum in our cars. they are too hot.

          To be honest with you i don't think i could explain it but when i first bought my car people flamed me when i told them that i used bosch plat. Maybe b/c it was for my eta.

            Plugs come in different heat ranges -- the ones in my stang (OEM) are too hot, thanks to the morons at Ford and probably CARB, and cause it to ping. Changing them is a royal PITA, which is why it hasn't happened yet.

            I have platinums in my cabrio -- they work just fine. But my next set is going to be OEM copper.
            The current fleet:
            1992 325ic: 148k-171k miles
            1999 Chevrolet Tahoe LT 4WD, 114k-142k miles
            1984 MasterCraft Stars and Stripes Powerslot (not a car :D) PCM Ford 351W, 904 hours

              Our ignition systems are not designed for platinum cored plugs, so they do not work up to their full potential.

                I would go with bosch OEM (or the NGK equivalent) and wouldn't waste time with anything special like platinum or the 4x plugs, your either just throwing money away or even hurting the performance of the car IMO. I usually replace OEM's every 10-15k.

                From what I know about E30's, and most BMW's for that matter, there really isnt anything to be gained with ignition "upgrades". The best ignition system is a properly functioning OEM one.

                  i never used the 4's, ive heard nothing but bad things about them, and they're a waste of money

                  im going to go with the platinum 2's never did me wrong in the past. plus, you dont have to gap them

                        The previous owner of my car put Plat 4s in it and it ran like dog piss until I changed them to OE. If your car is stock run stock plugs.

                          I always use Bosch Supers.

                          Also, since when is gapping a spark plug hard? Even if they come pregapped I always check them.

                            My mechanic races BMW's and he recommends OEM Bosch, so that's what I use.
