I am aware of that. It is just that the way his comment came across that bothered me.

Thanks for all the info James and thanks for offer Joe. I have a new I harness and chassis plug on the bus from a wrecker so I am going to go the adapter harness route.

I do not have the ETM I am working from a Bentley manual and the help of others. Can someone elaborate on what this c104 connector is and what it does and what I need to do with it. I cannot find any mention of it in the bentley.

No, I just use the ETM. Over the past few years I have mastered every bloody circuit inside the E30 Chassis.

You have a few different options. First off you have the ETM right? This makes everything a hell of a lot easier to get this done.

Option 1, you want an I engine harness and firewall connector, you also need a C104 connector and/or wire taps to provide tachometer and fuel rate (MPG Gauge) function. You also want to buy the little clip that secures the round C101 connector to the firewall.

Remove the wiring harness from the car, unscrew the fuse box and remove the engine firewall connector, install the new one following the correct pinout available in the ETM. This will provide the most stock looking appearance.

Option 2, build an adapter. You will want the engine harness connector from the 84, and the firewall connector from the I. You also want an I engine harness. Also pickup the C104 connector.

Here is a shot of an adapter I built for a customers car. 90I motor in a 84e Chassis.

You have many options, take your pick =)

I put a 635CSi harness in my '84 325e before I even heard about your swap, so I guess that make me the real innovator. Hey everybody!!! Look at me!!! I was the first person to ever put an "i" harness into an eta!!

I'm glad I'm not the only one who felt that he came across that way.

My most sincere apology to you Mr. Deagle for accidentally giving credit for all your hard work to someone else. I will do everything in my power to ensure that it never happens again. [/sarcasm]

started a topic E to I swap wiring dilemma

E to I swap wiring dilemma

Okay, so I am in the middle of the E to I swap on my '84 325e. Now before the swap I contacted MR325 and he told me about the adapter harness he made and the wiring connections necessary. However for his method to work I need and full "I" engine harness, the fusebox plug from the "E" harness, and the chassis plug from an "I" car.

Here is what I do have. I have the "E" fusebox plug and an "I" engine harness however the engine harness I have is missing the diagnostic plug and the c101 connector. I also have a complete 88 super "E" engine harness and the chassis connector from that same car. Is there anyway I can make this work? Or do I need to find a full "I" harness and chassis connector before I go any further?

    Thanks
    Matt
