    What would you do?

I am looking to put some more ponies under the hood but after countless hours researching...have come to a cross roads.

Would you....1. Use the existing m20 and seta bottom end for lower compression to turbo?

or.... 2. swap out the m20 and throw in the m50/2 and save up some cash for the turbo later?

    Goals: 300-400 daily hp
Hitting peak boost in the middle of the rpm band...no top end stuff

    what do you think??

    3. boosted stock M20B25. how many miles are on your motor?

a turbo M50 is going to add ~100lbs to the front of your car... it won't matter in a straight line, but it depends on what you want to do with your car.

you will want standalone either way - the stock ECU is worthless for a turbo. megasquirt is inexpensive, pretty easy to setup and lots of E30 guys are using it so you can get a good base tune to start with.

i want to make sure that i have something to build from instead of throwing in the turbo and having bottom end problems. if i stick with m20 i would definitely want to at least do metric blues and head gasket to make sure i can add more boost later with no problems...i should also add that it will be a street car

i guess the final setup i could go with is the stroker kit from IE...but I have had no personal experience with this.

What would one have to do to boost the IE kit...15psi?

LS1 or similar if you want that sort of power on a routine basis, especially it you need it to be mid-range pwer. While you can get there with FI on a 2.5-3L engine, reliabilty will suffer and the power will be at the top end of rpm band.
The car makes it possible, but the driver makes it happen.

LS1 FTW. You'll also experience something else mainly foriegn to e30's: gobs of low-rpm torque.

try the engine conversions forum on BF.c

LS1's come from +98 camaros, firebirds and +97 corvettes, as well as trucks, SUVs, GTO's and lots of other things in various forms.

The LS1 is one of the best engines right now, definitly the most modifiable, lightweight, and reliable as fcuk.
