Unknown M20 - how can I identify it?

I bought a used engine & trans a couple of months ago, and I deleted the guy's email info.

I don't remember what year/model the engine is, and I'm ready to buy some parts & install it.

How can I ID this engine?

are you asking if its a i or eta motor? i trans will have a pin at the rear behind the shifter, eta trans will have a odd bracket. i motors have smaller, less curved intake manifolds. etas have huge intake manis...i think, i might be backwards on that. pics could help.

You are backwards on the intakes, the i motors have shorter fatter runners and the e motors have long skinnies. ON the side of the block it should tell you if it is a 2.7 or a 2.5.

Looks like an i, or maybe super eta. The eta engines have a roundel instead of BMW on the valve cover.

Everything I see is indicative of a m20b25, I engine.

Is there any way to tell what year it is?

Yeah. Looking at the fuel injector harness rail, I would say its 1989 or newer.

See that toothed wheel on the front? That means either SETA or "i".

Your intake mani looks "i" as well, and +1 on the late model fuel injector connector.
