    # of teeth on t-belt matter?

im going to do the t-belt on my 87 325i, but when i went to get the belt i had a choice of 127 or 128 tooth belts, does it matter which one i get? how can i tell before taking it off and counting.

Maybe you should check around with some other parts retailers. T-belts are cheap, maybe just buy both and compare then return one.

Here in the shop a quick way to verify t-belts is to mark one groove with whit-out or other type marking material. place the new belt and old belt rib-to-rib. then while holding both belts, complete one full "meshing" back to the white-out. If you are not aligned with your marks, the belt is not correct.

buy the entire kit, which includes the belt and tensioner... Its quite a bit easier!
