Took my head off for rebuild, quick q.

And noticed that the cylinder walls are scratched in a crosshatching motion, does that mean the bottom end was rebuilt at one time? or do they come like this from factory?

    that's from the factory

if you can still see crosshatching, that's a good sign. but typically, BMW engines last a long time - the block in my car now had ~220,000 miles on it with the original cross hatching in place.

Dude thanks for the extremely quick reply! good to know, time to get my head rebuilt. timing belt snapped, 3 exhaust valves bent and 3 intakes bent, 1 broken rocker arm! :)

What do you recommend be done while the head is out, waterpump, timing belt and tensioner, all belts, and all gaskets?

That's a given. I could say mods - but do all that for general maintenance.
