also I dont think they had synthetic oil back in the 1980s. Do you have an actual number of the amount oil heats up without the cooler? how are you determining that the heat will be substantial even with synthetic to premature wear the engine?

and yes, for all those taht said weight reduction is meaningless... or taht a mere 5 lbs is meaningless, take 5 lb and apply to all the 20 things that you catagorize as meaningless weight reduction and you have 100lb weight loss.

Yeah, but you also do not decrease the ammount of mechanical "things" on the car, maybe a lighter, smaller oil cooler, but you don't gut it.

Example, You don't throw away your brake rotors on a drag car cyz, hey, who needs brakes to go fast in a straight line, no. you decrease the total weight of said system.

You'd be surprised at how hardcore some ppl are with weight reduction. Every little bit adds up. Shit I cut out wiring I didn't use and it wound up being almost 5lbs. That 5lbs less over the thousands of miles you drive adds up to that much less gas you use. If you are THAT hard core about saving every last bit of weight, it's actually worth it...

I think the only M20s that DIDNT come with the oil cooler were etas. They kind of dont see the same "abuse" as the "i" models due to lower red lines. *shrugs*

and if you aren't tracking your car, why are you so worried about weight? I don't think BMW intended the E30 to be a track rat, so what makes you think the oil cooler isn't neccesary on the street?

extra oil capacity
cooler running oil
engine longevity (related to both of the above)

reasons to-
save ~5lbs of weight so you can beat hondas light to light?
stroke your ego because you're so cool your oil doesn't need the extra help? (hah!)

seriously... people I know many m20 engine dont have oil coolers. Just want to see the options.

I think you can just loop the lines. it leave a bit of a mess in the engine bay because you have this hose lying around but it would work...
