I just re-read the whole thread too.

Good fucking god, what a bunch of idiots.

One of the main reasons you can tell that BMW is serious about its engines is the fact that they had oil coolers.

Anyone running an eta hard should have one too. What the hell is wrong with you people?

    I just read this... Damn-it.

    Really wish I hadn't.

If the M20B25 didn't need an oil cooler BMW wouldn't have put one in it...

    And before the "yeah but"....

The M20B25s didn't last long in the e34s (even though the software was different that operated it)

Oil cooling is good because the only way it is cooled without it is the little bit that runs to the head gets cooled before it runs back down to the sump. There is also some minute amount of heat shed in the aluminum sump. So the oil is relying on the coolant to indirectly cool it. Also, cooling the oil helps remove heat from the engine. What happens is it takes some of the heat exchange work the radiator needs to do. If the cooling system is working efficiently then there isn't much different going on internally. Most vehicles do not have external oil cooling. Cooler oil will last longer and lubricates better, but really the little 5 tube cooler isn't doing much. Pretty sure the system on our cars is a bypass system so only a portion of the oil pumped is running through the cooler and filter.

OP: I'll give you $30 bucks for the cooler and lines shipped when you delete it.

ok so why is that pic relevent to an oil cooler delete thread? and is there any detremental effects (way too high oil pressure, low oil pressure) if I delete my oil cooler?

Just unplug 3 spark plugs, you only use half the power anyways...

    Nope, my ETA has it.

The only proper way to delete the oil cooler is to swap in an S52.

so what do you need to run a I without an oil cooler? I just bought the nipple thing that threads into the block, do I just throw the filter in the other side of it? It seems to me I need a housing of some sort, anyone have a pic of an E engine near the oil filter?

i have a good reason to remove one.

My Gf is about to start driving a lowered 89 325is and i dont want to have to repair it when she runs into a parking block.

Im thinking about moving it up behind the grill if not removing it all together.

if you're destroying your oil cooler over speed bumps, I can't imagine your valance is very pretty looking and the rest of your undercarriage is probably destroyed, so go ahead.

for people who ask why do this, maybe the OP was tired of getting his oil cooler ripped off on speed bumps like I am. I'm on my second oil cooler and just ordered that threaded nipple for the oil cooler delete. Is there a significant temp difference without an oil cooler? is there anything else I need besides the threaded nipple?
