Next time the gauges go crazy and all of the lights come on, maybe pull over?

If it's not overheating, you should be fine.

-change the oil and coolant... and run some compression #s to see if anything's fishy

You should stop if your car gets up to the midway mark and wont go down, from that point it'll only get hotter. Obviously something was messed up. Maybe you could of got it towed?

Mine constantly runs mid way, only time it goes over is when I'm in heavy foot mode, even then it goes right back to half pretty quick.
